A fun dinner idea: having a primary school-themed meal set served in a space decked out to look like a bilik darjah

The evening involved us retrieving cutleries from our Spiderman school bag, and playing lawan pemadam.

The childhood memorabilia filling up the whole of Ecole P transported us to the long-gone years of waiting for the class monitor's  “Selamat pagi, cikgu” prompt and sharing food with your best friends during recess.

We started off with the Mushroom Soup, adorably served in the iconic metal tiffin. Absolutely fantastic soup; it’s full-on mushroom action in here, and doesn’t have that overly creamy taste that makes you jelak after a few spoonfuls.

The House Salad, a bowlful of crisp greens tossed in house dressing with nuts and egg, adds a childhood memory tinge with the inclusion of corn flakes.

It’s awesome how the meals here don’t generally have that overly rich quality about them. Even the cheese-topped Mushroom Shepherd’s Pie feels pretty light, perhaps thanks to the delicious mushroom-eggplant ragout filling.

The House Pasta was definitely one of the highlights of the set. Its interesting gravy is evaporated milk-based, further flavoured with chilli and curry leaves. Crisp fried mushroom serves as the perfect accompaniment.

We could have the Vegetarian Fried Rice all the time! Fried rice is at its awesomest when there are countless of ingredients tossed in it; here, they include carrots, cucumber, bell peppers, and mushrooms.

For the rice-averse, you can get the same mix of ingredients but with delectable Yam Gnocchi replacing the rice.

The set comes with Fries too, with a side of a super-yum mustard mayo.

For drinks, here’s what included in the set:

1 selection from their School Resources mocktail list: we went with the Powerpuff Girls (a refreshing blend of watermelon, lychee, mint, raspberries, and honey)

1 selection from their Student ResponsibiliTEAS tea: we opted for the Mathematic TEAcher (Jasmine Green Tea with apple, pear, and pandan).

1 double pot (2 pax) selection from their standard Student ResponsibiliTEAS tea. Choose from English Breakfast, Early Grey, Jasmine Green Tea, Oolong, Long Jin, Peppermint, Chamomile, and Osmanthus.

As if things weren't imaginative enough, we were treated to the ultimate imagination-fueled dessert: a curious blend of Nasi Lemak (a school canteen favourite) with... crème brulee! Turns out, the unlikely flavours actually work well together! Imagine having ginger-infused coconut pudding topped with peanuts, anchovies, and cucumber, and accompanied by a dollop of phenomenal berry sambal. We’d recommend trying this at least once in your life; it’s amazing!

On another note, we’re seriously getting addicted to KindMeal coupons! So far, it’s the most user-friendly way for us to find cool meat-free meals to try. We like that we don’t have to pay a single thing when getting a coupon from their website or app, and we can even use the coupon everyday if we wanted to (up until the coupon expiry date)! Have you guys tried it?
