When thinking of an authentic bowl of tom yam, the last place we’d think to look would be in a mall. Absolute Thai easily proved our theory wrong.

Offering a vibrant, flavour-packed menu in an uber-chic principally-black space (check out a mini tour of the restaurant here), it is no wonder this Thai eatery is often swarmed with diners during lunch and dinner!

Tom yam here comes in two options: red base and clear base. We went with the Red-Based Seafood Tom Yam Served in Firepot (RM45.90 for a 4-pax portion) – the soup is fully stocked with fish, prawn, and squid, and the liberal use of chilli padi resulted in a super syok spiciness!

Pandan Leaves Chicken (RM 14.90 for 4 pcs) is one of our Thai meal must-haves! The pandan-wrapped chicken is marinated in coconut milk, steamed, and then fried to meld the floral pandan notes with the juicy steamed chicken.

Steamed Siakap with Chillies, Garlic, and Lime Sauce (RM46.90) takes centre stage with its soft, sweet barramundi flesh cooked in a spicy-and-sour gravy.

The Thai favourite Stir-Fried Bean Curd with Hot Basil Leaves (RM13.90) is highly enjoyable, as the tofu cubes are distinctively flavoured with the Thai basil leaves they’re cooked with.

If individual meals are what you’re looking for, not to worry, they’ve got 13 exciting dishes to choose from! We highly recommend the Tom Yam Mee Hoon with Seafood (RM16.90) and the Thai Laksa Served with Green Curry Chicken and Assorted Vegetables (RM17.90). The Pineapple Fried Rice with Prawns (RM16.90), served in half a pineapple, is a hit with the crowd here as well!
