When was the last time you paid RM4 for a good cup of latte? Exactly our point: Backofen’s prices are ridiculously cheap for the quality they uphold!

Their Hot Tea (RM3) even comes with the little sealed tub of milk… Fancy! Hehe

Their desserts are pretty good as well, and are a steal, with an average price of RM4.50!

The extensive array they offer, a combination of good old classics and curious discoveries

Tiramisu (RM4.50) is a delight with its rich, deep flavours: decadent and moist coffee-filled centre with a generous topping of cocoa powder

We quite like the Oreo Cheese Cake (RM4.50) as well, as it’s quite light and is based with a chocolate cake layer, instead of the usual graham cracker base, which went really well with the airy cheesy middle and cookie-crumbled top.

The Baked Cheese Slices (RM3.80) really caught our eye; nothing on display sounded as sinful as these! (Okay, maybe except for the Cheese Strudels…) And when they say cheese, they seriously mean cheese! The slice is jam-packed with as much cheesy goodness as a 1” x 3” bar can hold; it is extremely dense and perfect for sharing =)

What’s great also about this place is that it has such a nice European feel to it; the place is cosy yet polished, sophisticated yet accessible. Also, for a rather small eatery, they have managed to comfortably fit in ample seating, which means the chances of us having to stand around waiting for people to finish their meals each time we come here are rather low. 

If you love pancakes, then you're gonna love how they do their Fluffy Pancakes (RM6) here! Each layer is so soft and pillowy, and the maple syrup it seems to be drowning in may look like a lot, but after the last bite you'll be amazed at your ability to mop it right up with all the pancake.   

We tried their Meatloaf (RM13) and Veal Bratwurst (RM13) as well, which were alright.

The Rosemary Chicken (RM12) is a great thing to have here as well, and there’s just something about the way they do their roasted potatoes here that are so amazing!

As always, parking is pretty unpredictable in these little streets of Hartamas, but is generally easier to find at night (the keyword being ‘generally’)

* the last time we were here, there was a notice stating that they are forced to increase their prices soon, as they have been maintaining their low prices for years but are not able to keep continuing doing so. Here’s hoping the price hike won’t be too jarring

**there is also a Backofen outlet at Taylor’s Lakeside Campus, but the last (and only time) we went, the service was horrendous, the prices were much higher than the Hartamas branch's, and they seemed to have a passion for deep-frying chicken schnitzels and meatloaves to oblivion. Quite hard to imagine that they belong to the same brand
