We are grateful that Ramadhan has been a rather blessed one for us so far, and we hope that it is too for all our Muslim readers. As the fasting month approaches the end of its first week, we’re now going on our iftar patrol to check out great places to buka puasa at.

We decided to give Khan Baba’s buffet a try, and we have to say that we are pleasantly surprised. Somehow, we had lowered expectations upon stepping into the dimly-lit, simplistic restaurant. The buffet line-up is rather limited too, which is something we’re not really used to when going for buffets.

However, the moment you gulp down a spoonful of their Mandy Rice, that’s when you’ll realize what their pull is. Whatever the buffet lacks in variety, it more than makes up for it with its robust flavours! Their moist and glistening Mandy Rice is one of the best we’ve ever had!

We were also drawn to the Lamb Keema, an Indian dish that’s kind of a cross between curry and korma, made with spiced ground meat. We love how it’s spicy, which makes for a nice accompaniment for the rice.

The elusive kebabs

Our favourite though, without a doubt, is their Kebabs (available in chicken and lamb versions). They were really popular with the crowd, judging by the fact that they disappear within seconds of being refilled on the buffet line.

The chickpea salad was quite an interesting alternative to hummus.

Really good, thick dhal!

For drinks, they offer bottomless mint tea and sirap bandung (which, admittedly, is neither Arabic or Pakistani but we suppose it’s quite a smart thing to have to cater to the mostly Malay clientele).

Full house!

The buffet is RM29.90 per head (RM15 for children aged 5 to 10 years), and judging by the rate that we were polishing off the kebabs, we’re sure our haul was worth a whole lot more than 30 bucks. Reasonably-priced and, most importantly, delicious!
