The Bites Cafe @ Lake Fields Sg Besi

Price Range : Mid-range
Cuisine : Western
Catphobia-Friendly? : Yep!
Pork-Free

Whenever we try a new restaurant, the first bite would usually determine whether or not we were in for a good time. Aptly enough, every single bite at Bites is hypnotic, exciting, and satisfying right to the very end.

Fikcles @ Taman Tun Dr Ismail

Price: Mid-range
Cuisine: Western
Catphobia-Friendly?: Yes

At a glance, Fikcles fits right in with the current quirky café troupe with its adorably-painted façade and its coffee-scented interior. But scan through the menu and you’ll find this genius creation that sets this cosy café significantly apart:

Abah & Sons Co Motocafe @ Lake Fields, Sg Besi

Price Range : Mid-range
Cuisine : All-day breakfast and coffee
Catphobia-Friendly? : Yes

Chancing across this adorable-looking place online, we made a point to drive all the way to Sg Besi last night to give this place a try (we're gonna pretend we're totally unfazed by the alarming amount of petrol we tend to carelessly consume in the name of food).

Breakfast Sets @ Tappers Cafe, Damansara Uptown

Price Range : Mid-range
Cuisine : Western selections for their breakfast sets
Recommended For : A morning meal out that's cosy enough for alone time or with company
Catphobia-Friendly? : Yes

Funnily enough, it's not too easy to find poached eggs for breakfast around Taman Tun area (besides the magnificent ones at Mukha). Turning to Foursquare for help, we were pointed to an unlikely destination for good, runny poached eggs... A big hurray for Tappers Cafe!

We Finally Caught Up with Royal Post's Coffee Truck!

Price Range : Mid-range
Cuisine : Coffee!
Recommended For : A cup of coffee that comes with a challenge
Catphobia-Friendly? : Depending on the location, we suppose

After months of stalking Royal Post’ Instagram uploads, we rounded the corner to work today and were ecstatic to find the signature red-white-black coffee truck parked in front of the office! Finally, we were able to give this elusive traveling cup of coffee a try! (You know how we love them elusive eats, from our Humble Chef-stalking days).

Sushi Breakfast @ Daiwa-Zushi, Tsukiji Fish Market, Tokyo

Price Range : Splurge
Cuisine : Japanese (Sushi)
Recommended For : Finding out how sushi is MEANT to be
Catphobia-Friendly? : Yes

Articles after articles about the sushi at Tsukiji Fish Market conclude with a unanimous “You will never see sushi in the same way again.” It is not hard to believe their confident claims, what with Tsukiji Fish Market being the largest seafood market in the world! Where else would you find the freshest, plumpest piece of tuna for breakfast?

Kopi 434 @ Jalan Maharani, Muar

Price Range : Budget
Cuisine : Coffee
Recommended For : A taste of Muar's famous coffee
Catphobia-Friendly? : Yes

Came across this little nook on one of our random Sunday daytrips, this time to this rather bustling Johorean town. After a nostalgic lunch and mini tour around town, only one thing could complete our day. If you guessed coffee, you know us too well =)

One of the best moments in life is, undeniably, stepping into a coffee house and having that waft of roasting coffee just hit you! When in Muar, Kopi 434 is the place to have your caffeine fix. It is easily noticeable along Jalan Maharani with its bright yellow façade. What’s great about this place is that you can choose to have your drinks ‘espresso style’ or ‘local style’.

Restoran ZZ Sup Tulang @ Jalan Petri, Johor Bahru

Price Range : Budget
Cuisine : Malay (Johorean)
Recommended For : A sampling of one of Johor’s greatest culinary treasures
Catphobia-Friendly? : No. If you’re afraid of cats, better to sit at shacks with chairs rather than at the shacks where you have to sit cross-legged on the floor

Mee rebus tulang is synonymous with the southern state of Johor, and we took advantage of our quick stop in JB by sampling a bowl (or two). Yes, you can find places that sell mee rebus tulang in KL, but nothing comes close to what we had at Restoran ZZ Sup Tulang.

LOKL Coffee Co @ Jalan Tun HS Lee

Recommended For : A coffee stop while traipsing around KL
Catphobia-Friendly?: Yes

LOKL Coffee Co has been taunting us on our To-Eat list for a few months now, but with its weekdays-only opening hours, there was not much chance of us dropping by. Were we excited to hear that LOKL is now open on Saturdays!

Recipe: Pumpkin Soup

Pumpkin soup is probably one of the most satisfying things to have, and yet requires minimal effort to make! Here's how!

Coffee Tree @ Jalan Bagan Jermal, Georgetown

Price Range : Mid-range
Cuisine : Instant coffee and chocolate products
Recommended For : Edible Penang souvenirs
Catphobia-Friendly? : Yes

Yes, this little outlet is a wee bit touristy, complete with salespersons greeting you at your car eager to slap their yellow little commission stickers on you. And yet, here we were yet again, happily pushing through their doors, up for yet another round of coffee and chocolate samples before proceeding to the daunting task of choosing our favourite flavours to buy.

Backofen @ Desa Sri Hartamas

Price : Budget (for now*)
Cuisine : Austrian bakery / cafe
Recommended For : Middle of the month coffee/desserts sessions
Catphobia-Friendly? : Yes

When was the last time you paid RM4 for a good cup of latte? Exactly our point: Backofen’s prices are ridiculously cheap for the quality they uphold!

The Red Beanbag @ Solaris Dutamas

Price Range : Mid-range
Cuisine : Western
Recommended For : A weekend brunch
Catphobia-Friendly? : Yes! =)

It’s always great to wake up only to be greeted by a plateful of goodness! There’s just nothing better than spending an off day sitting in a sunny cafe, tucking into piping hot eggs and toast, discussing about nothing and everything over cup(s) of coffee. It’s also so much better when that cup of latte actually comes with a bar of Tim Tam! Yeps, in keeping with the Aussie vibe that The Red Beanbag emanates, you can choose to Tim Tam Slam the coffee beverage of your choice! The coffee here is superbly rich, and the best way to have it really is without any sugar, as bites of Tim Tam in between gives such an interesting, chocolatey dimension to every satisfying sip.

Chilla Cup @ Solaris Mont Kiara

Price Range : Mid-range
Cuisine : Coffee, tea and then some
Recommended For : A cuppa to suit any occasion, right up to the wee hours
Catphobia-Friendly? : Yes

We are reluctantly accepting the ‘Yep, I am now very much an adult’ badge as we slowly come to terms with the fact that we are now very much addicted to coffee. But honestly, who can resist its smooth, silky rich texture as it glides magnificently down your throat? There’s something so soulful about coffee, from which having a cup somehow makes everything seem whole and complete. “Oh no, now what did he do? Let’s meet up for coffee and you can tell me all about it.”, “Gosh, I haven’t seen you in ages! Let’s catch up over coffee!”, “Hey, I’m just about done. I’ll see you for coffee after work?” and the list of life events fuelled by coffee goes on.

Bahn Baguette @ One Utama

Price Range: Mid-range
Cuisine : Vietnamese
Recommended For : An exotic alternative to Subway
Catphobia-Friendly? : Very!

We seem to be rather receptive to Vietnamese cuisine lately, and our current favourite haunt of the Viet kind: Bahn Baguette! Being colonized by the French has greatly impacted the foodscapes of Vietnam, where such treats as baguettes are a common sight. Couple that with fresh Vietnamese flavours and you’ve got yourself an effortlessly beautiful fusion of East and West.

Bahn Baguette, in our eyes, serves as an exotic alternative to Subway. They offer interesting daily promotions as well:
