Cuisine : Vietnamese Recommended For : An exotic alternative to Subway
Catphobia-Friendly? : Very!
We seem to be rather receptive to Vietnamese cuisine lately, and our current favourite haunt of the Viet kind: Bahn Baguette! Being colonized by the French has greatly impacted the foodscapes of Vietnam, where such treats as baguettes are a common sight. Couple that with fresh Vietnamese flavours and you’ve got yourself an effortlessly beautiful fusion of East and West.
Bahn Baguette, in our eyes, serves as an exotic alternative to Subway.
They offer interesting daily promotions as well:
The ones we can’t seem to get enough of are Beef Teriyaki Banh Mi
(Wednesdays) and Pineapple Tuna Bahn Mi (Fridays). Upon ordering, you
will see them slicing open the fresh, crusty baguettes and delicately pack the
preferred meats onto the bread, and topped with generous handfuls of coriander,
shredded carrots, as well as sliced tomatoes and cucumbers.
One bite of the beef teriyaki sandwich is enough to alert your brain
that you WILL be coming back here next Wednesday. Relish the sandwich as your
teeth into the satisfyingly crunch baguette crust; to the flavour-packed
beef teriyaki with its sweet and smokey marinade and its slight heat from the
spring onions; to the fresh, crisp taste of the coriander and carrots that bind
all the flavours together.
Pineapple tuna may seem like a rather odd mix of flavours, but are we
glad they thought of it! The tuna mayo is infused with tiny pineapple cubes,
which gives the standard tuna sandwich a rather Asian twist. This is due to the
fact that, curiously, it tastes quite similar to assam laksa. You’ve got
the sweet-sourness of the pineapples blending surprisingly well with the creamy
fish filling, and it makes you wonder why you’ve never thought of it before.
