Ubud
is a true haven for vegans, and we were frantically trying out as many of the
vegan eateries as we could fit into our tight 2-day schedule!
Clear
Café is definitely one of our utmost favourites, due to its extensive menu,
calming décor and reasonable pricing. We fell madly in love with the Vegan Nasi Campur (IDR 40,000), which
comprises of a heart-shaped serving of brown rice accompanied by tofu and tempe
cooked in three different styles: satay smothered in a delicious, sweet and
smoky peanut sauce; soup cooked lontong-style
in coconut milk; and stir-fried in a sweet and sour sauce. The rice set also
comes with a bergedil (potato cake),
which was insanely crispy on the outside and absolutely soft on the inside.
The Pesto Linguine (IDR 40,000) turned out
to be an excellent choice as well; the linguine is tossed in the rich and nutty
basil pesto sauce and topped with some parmesan.
We
absolutely adored the Majestic Mushrooms
(IDR 35,000), which comes highly recommended here at Clear Cafe. The thick,
juicy slices of mushrooms are topped with an unbelievably delicious concoction
of feta, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic and herbs: the dish may not look like much
but trust us, this is one dish you’re not gonna wanna miss!
Right
beside the restaurant, there’s Clear Express: a shoplot offering amazing raw
and vegan to-go treats!
From cookies to brownies to granola to macaroons, we
went slightly mad trying to keep within our snacks budget in there!
Highlights
of our haul include spirulina-infused granola, chai cashew cookies, chocolate
and coconut macaroons, and of course, their decadent brownies!
