Kacang pool lovers rejoice! If you are in Johor Bahru and craving for a mangkuk of the good stuff , it just HAS to be at Kacang Pool Haji. For those who may not be very familiar with this dish, kacang pool is a type of stew made with foul beans (also known as fava beans).

The dish’s history is traced to be of Middle Eastern origin, but the Malaysian version has been altered through the years according to local taste buds. Taste-wise, it’s actually very similar to what the Americans call chilli.

To put it simply, thick gravy + splash of lime juice + crunchy, fresh green chillies + runny sunny-side-up = kacang pool perfection! Plus, it’s served with a piece of really thick toast, which is great for mopping up the last few drops of the yummy stew!

Btw, we have yet to find a place in KL that serves really good kacang pool!  So if any of you know where we should head to, do let us know! =)
