Having been heavily inspired by Latin American culture these past few weeks, what with our salsa nights and digging around for obscure Chayanne films, it was not surprising that we would end up on the doorstep of Carnaval Churrascaria, vying for a taste of a true Brazilian feast!
What is churrascaria, you say? Essentially, it refers to a barbeque joint. For an in-depth explanation, the restaurant is happy to offer its definition.
Amazing meat selection, with an all-you-can-eat setup? It just doesn't get any better than this! So, for Carnaval Churrascaria virgins, here's a dining guide:
1) There is no menu here, you can opt for either the Full Meal (inclusive of all the meat plus salad bar) or a Light Meal (no BBQ for you! Provides access to just the salad bar).
Start off with any sides you fancy from the salad bar. There's a cold side for all the greens, tomato salad, potato salad and the likes, while the hot section offers cooked dishes such as wedges, butter rice, boiled okra and stir-fried veges.
Even though we were there pretty late, the salad bar was still pretty fully stocked.
2) Return to your table and wait for the passadores (servers proudly carrying their skewers of meat) to entice you with some pretty awesome grilled stuff! While they cut the meat, catch the cut slices with the provided metal penyepit and place them where they rightfully belong: on your plate! The highlights of our meal were:
The perfectly-grilled Lamb Shoulder, with its crisp skin and tender, slightly fatty meat that arrives fresh off the grill, making that beautiful sizzle sound
The immensely juicy Beef Steak. For a not-so-subtle burst of flavour, there's also an amazing Garlic Beef version
Grilled Chicken, which interestingly enough, tasted like grilled ayam masak merah. Seriously good stuff! The Garlic Chicken variation is quite good too!
The Grilled Pineapple goes amazing with the lamb shoulder, with all it sweet-sour caramelized goodness
Insanely addictive Mini Garlic Bread!
The mint sauce and tomato-capsicum relish served on each table really helped to give the food a refreshing edge and to potong the headiness that could come from consuming too much meat
The great thing about eating this way is that, while waiting for each passadore to bring yet a different skewer of grilled meats to our table, we are able to take our time to really, truly enjoy each grilled masterpiece. So glad to have come across such an interesting restaurant!
