Whatever the circumstances, every time we’re in Penang, a stop at
Kapitan is a MUST! Well, where else are we going to get our claypot briyani
fix? Since our first visit to Kapitan in 2009, we’ve been trying to find a
claypot briyani place in KL to tend to our cravings, but have had no such luck!
And so, Kapitan always remains as one of
our biggest highlights in any of our Penang trips =)
Their highly original concept is further enhanced by their mind-blowing
recipes! The vibrant yellow briyani is cooked perfectly, always arriving at our
table steaming and soft. Coupled with its amazingly fragrant scent and bold
spice flavours, the rice is good to have even just on its own.
They offer quite a selection of claypot briyani variations: chicken,
mutton, prawn, beef, fish and vegetarian. Our all-time favourites are the Chicken Claypot Briyani (RM8.60) and Mutton Claypot Briyani (RM10). For its
humble price, each claypot is stuffed with a generous serving of the rice, your
meat of choice, dhal and some real good raita,
a sour-ish yoghurt condiment. Irrespective of which meat you order, both the
chicken and mutton are marinated in this AMAZING tomato base with its - naturally
- medley of spices, and are so incredibly juicy and tender!
Like most mamaks, they are open 24 hours so you can enjoy their claypot
creation at any time of the day!
