The
last time we dined here, which was ages ago, we remember having a very forgettable
meal. However, we were recently convinced to give this place a second chance (we
were told Homst has been taken over by different owners quite some time back?)
and were stunned to be met by a packed-to-the-brim full house!
“Is it
always this busy?” we asked one of the smiley waiters, as he was setting up a
table for us at the far end of the sidewalk. He replied earnestly, “Busy? No,
no, this is not even considered busy yet…”
Despite
the mad crowd, the service was highly efficient. We received our first dish
less than 10 minutes from ordering. The main reason we were sold on giving
Homst a retry was this:
Salted Egg Soft Shell Crab! (RM36)
Gotta
love all that gooey goodness! The super decadent dish is made for sharing, but
we had a hard time grasping that concept =P
Ginger Beef (RM19) was one of our favourite picks as well;
tender beef slices in thick, flavourful gravy.
Must
be something in their gravies because we couldn't get enough of the one that
comes with the Sizzling Tofu (RM 13)!
Seriously stellar!
For
veges, we really loved the Garlic
Brinjal (RM13). The garlic was not too overpowering and accented the
lightly-fried eggplants really well.
Unfortunately,
not all the dishes we had were hits. The Pandan
Chicken (RM17) was unpleasant, as the chicken bits were dry and bland, with
hardly any hints of pandan at all.
Tom Yam Seafood was pretty one-dimensional too, sour
mostly.
All in all, it was still a very enjoyable meal and we're excited to return and try out other interesting dishes in their extensive menu. =)
